According to police sources, the shooting took place near the Central Police Hospital, on the opposite side of the road under the jurisdiction of Paltan police station.
The operation was led by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Enayet Kabir of the Lalbagh division.
The team signaled a car to stop as part of their operation, but the suspects inside opened fire at the officers instead, injuring two of them, as per the sources.
The wounded officers were first taken to Central Police Hospital and then shifted to DMCH due to the severity of their injuries. They are currently receiving treatment in the emergency unit, sources added.
ASI Atik Hasan was shot in the abdomen and has been placed in the One-Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC) in critical condition, while Constable Sujon, who was shot in the left leg, is being treated in the casualty department.
