Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Arif Suyoko has said that his country is interested in importing jute and jute goods from Bangladesh.
He also said they are exploring investment prospects and looking to enhance bilateral cooperation in the sectors of jute and agriculture.
The Indonesian envoy made the remarks while visiting Hasen Jute Industries Limited at Naohata under Paba upazila in the district on Wednesday.
A high-level delegation from the Indonesian Embassy accompanied him during the visit to the 100 percent export-oriented jute industry.
Ambassador Suyoko said Bangladesh's jute and jute goods are of higher quality than those of Indonesia. Therefore, they are very interested in importing more jute and jute products from Bangladesh.
"We are also examining how the two countries can work together in jute goods production and processing," he said, adding, "Not only jute, but we are also eager to enhance cooperation in Bangladesh's agriculture sector, particularly in mango cultivation."
"We will extend necessary cooperation if any businessman or trade body wants to export mangoes to Indonesia, as the mangoes from this region are famous for their taste and flavour," said the ambassador.
He further said Indonesia is ready to invest in Bangladesh if there is any joint initiative in agriculture. In this regard, the potential of the Rajshahi region will be given special consideration.
During the visit, both sides held detailed discussions on jute and jute goods exports and outlined future work plans. They expressed optimism about the bright prospects of exporting jute and jute products to Indonesia.
Later, Ambassador Suyoko visited different units of the factory, particularly the production process, diversified use of jute, and by-products.
Managing Director of the industry Hasen Ali, Chairman Tahera Hasen, Director Towfique Hassan, and Executive Director Ahsan Habib were present on the occasion.
